Gateway

What it is

The Vilmo Gateway is a server-based interface permitting voice transmission betweenTCP/IP connectivity and PSTN (Public Service Telephone Network) or PBX (Private Branch Exchange). Our Gateway is equipped with ClickTel VTG software and Dialogic cards, and runs under a Windows NT 4.0 platform. This revolutionnary technology allows the integration of voice communications between:

  • A telephone to a PC
  • A PC to a telephone
  • A telephone to telephone (through Internet/Intranet)
  • A Web Plugin to telephone
  • And Fax to Fax

Key Benefits

This interface can turn your Web Site into an active communications tool. Today, 98% of Internet users have only one telephone line at home. In order to reach you, they can send you an e-mail for more information and wait, or they can write down the telephone number on a paper (if you have provided it on your Web page) and call you later when they have completed their surfing. The result in either cases is that from the time they write your phone number or send you an e-mail, their interest has dropped by over 90%.

  • With the help of the ClickTel plugin, at the user side, your visitor can speak to your agent or sales representative immediately .
  • This system is also a great money saving solution for mutlinational companies who which to communicate using their existing Intranet network or through the Internet
  • These 2 applications respond to both your present needs to reduce your long distance cost, and we feel most importantly, increases your revenu potential through your Internet E-Commerce..

Applications

Telephone to Telephone

The call first travels over the PSTN/PBX to the nearest Gateway. When prompted, the caller enters the destination telephone number. The call then travels over the IP network to the Gateway nearest to the specified telephone. The local Gateway decides the best routing on a priority-list basis. From the remote Gateway, the call is again sent over the PSTN/PBX to the destination phone.

Telephone to Computer

When calling an Internet Phone from a telephone, the call travels over the PSTN/PBX to the nearest Gateway. When prompted, the caller enters the destination Internet address using the telephone keypad. The call then travels directly to the desired computer.

Computer to Telephone

When placing a call using VocalTecs Internet Phone 5.0™ , the call travels over the IP network to the Gateway closest to the call destination. This routing is automatically determined by the system. From this point, the call travels over the PSTN/PBX to its final destination.

Web Browser to Telephone: ClickTel™

Using ClickTel, people surfing the Web can connect to a company’s call center by clicking a "Call" button located on the company Web page. Users can communicate with a customer service group, ordering department, or help desk by using their Web browser and multimedia equipment. This feature is effective for companies who supply calling services and wish to expand the number of ways in which customers can contact their staff. A company wishing to use this powerful service must have a World Wide Web Server and a Web site.

Fax to Fax

Using ClickTel’s new facsimile capabilities, fax transmissions can be made between local and remote Gateways. The local fax dials the remote fax over the Gateway network, establishes the connection and transmits to the remote fax. Features include both on-line and store-and-forward modes (in case remote fax is busy).

Features

Telephony Gateway Features

IP telephony (also called Internet Telephony) offers many advantages over traditional circuit-switched calling. Low-cost communication, media-rich collaborative computing, network convergence, and online commerce are just some of the reasons why IP telephony is becoming so popular. As more and more people discover the benefits of packet-switched technologies, there will be an increasing demand for full-featured solutions like the ones provided by ClickTel. These solutions combine a suite of products engineered with interoperability and superior quality in mind. IP telephony is rapidly becoming a powerful means of communication, and ClickTel is once again leading the way.

Award-Winning Audio Capabilities

Enables real-time, full-duplex conversations with crisp, clear, sound quality. Improved echo canceling algorithms and volume controls provide consistently brilliant voice.

State-of-the-Art Compression Algorithms

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway uses advanced compression/decompression algorithms to reduce packet size, requiring less bandwidth for the transmission of voice packets across the networks.

Delay Management System

Optimizes the audio behavior over different types of network connections.

Packet Reconstruction

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway reconstructs packets which may have been delayed or lost during transmission. This feature ensures outstanding voice quality and real-time transmission.

Dynamic Routing Algorithms

A sophisticated routing scheme sends your voice call or fax transmission to the appropriate Gateway depending on the destination.

Traffic Balancing

Sends calls and faxes over the least congested route.

Multimedia Networking

By combining voice and data on the same IP network, companies leverage their existing infrastructure and benefit from multimedia networking technologies.

User Services

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway is easy to use and offers the same conveniences that traditional calling provides. The dialing process is simple: Users just dial their destination’s telephone number once connected to the Gateway. Other user services include an Interactive Voice Response system which guides users through the calling process and fax capabilities which add to the cost-saving advantages of IP telephony.

Simple Dialing Plan

Once connected to the Gateway, the automated attendant asks the caller for the destination phone number. The caller enters the number just as they ordinarily would. The local Gateway automatically determines which remote Gateway should handle the call.

Call Progress Detection

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway uses an auto detection mechanism to avoid disconnects during long periods of silence. This feature ensures conversations are not prematurely cut off.

Interactive Voice Response

Serves as the interface between the Public Switched Telephone Network/ PBX and the Internet or intranet. Voice prompts make the calling process easy and user-friendly. The system may be customized so prompts can be recorded in any language.

Voice Mail

Users can access their voice mail with the Gateway’s enhanced DTMF capabilities. Remote PC users now have convenient network access with the ClickTel Internet Phone®.

Operational Elements

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway is designed for easy management. Various tools are provided so the system administrator can set up and monitor the Gateway network with little effort. An intuitive graphical user interface, security functions, and third-party billing support are just some of the features that make the Gateway a reliable and cost-effective solution.

Graphical User Interface

Provides convenient system configuration and maintenance. Allows viewing of group connectivity. Each line can be configured separately as an internal extension, analog line, or digital trunk line with information for up to 30 voice and 8 fax lines.

Network Monitoring

Alerts administrators to problems on the network. A Main/Expansion Unit Architecture ensures that the network does not have a single point of failure and allows the network to function properly even if a node is not fully operational.

Centralized Network Administration

A Windows-based network management system helps administrators configure multiple Gateways over LAN/WAN environments. The designated Main Gateway handles all Expansion unit information including network settings.

System Administration

Monitors the system in real-time using an intuitive graphical user interface. A range of information is provided including the date, time, and duration of a call, the source and destination, and the call originator’s name. Voice and fax records are available on separate screens.

T1/E1 Capability

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway provides the flexibility and scalability to accommodate a T1/E1 interface to the telephone network.

Call Tracking

Logs usage and billing, including incoming and outgoing calls, date, time and duration of each call, source and destination, caller’s name, source IP address, and call completion status.

Network Security

Access to the Gateway network can be restricted to exclude unauthorized incoming or outgoing callers, specific extensions, or users without a valid Personal Identification Number (PIN). System administrators can also restrict calls to certain area codes and define the hours of operation for each Gateway.

Third-Party Billing Support

Windows-based billing systems fully integrate with the Gateway providing effective management tools for reselling voice and fax services.

Selection of CODECs

Various CODECs may be used to compress and decompress voice for transmission over the IP network. These include VCS (VocalTec Software Compression), GSM, and TrueSpeech.

Automatic Gain Control

Volume control can be adjusted either manually by the administrator or automatically if desired. Gain controls allow the administrator to optimize voice quality based on network parameters.

Call Progress Analysis

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway detects all call progress events such as dial tone, busy line, call answered, call disconnect, ring tone, etc. Call progress detection can be customized to meet the local line parameters in countries worldwide.

Conference Server Support

Users connected to the Gateway can access a ClickTel Conferencing Server and benefit from multi-point conferencing.

Network Reliability

Automatic or manual polling of Gateways using a test communication program alerts the administrator to possible points of failure on the network.

Answer Supervision

The ClickTel Telephony Gateway uses a sophisticated detection mechanism to synchronize call logs between local and remote Gateways. Call duration can be reliably measured and accurate records can be maintained for billing purposes.
