WHEN I SPEAK INTO THE MICROPHONE NOTHING HAPPENS,
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Configuring and fine-tuning your
microphone may take a bit of time, but it ensures the maximum performance of
Voice Surfer. This section helps you set up your microphone; however, it may not
solve all microphone issues. Please contact ClickTel Technical Support by using
our Technical Support Contact Form if microphone issues persist.
Note: Dialog box names and
labels vary among operating systems and device drivers. The most common names
are used with a probable alternative listed in parenthesis.
To fine-tune your microphone:
From the Start menu, point
to Programs, then Accessories, then Multimedia (Entertainment),
and click Volume Control. The Volume Control dialog box
appears.
From the Options menu,
click Properties. The Properties dialog box appears.
Select the radio button next to Playback.
From the Show the following
volume controls list, select the MIC (Microphone) checkbox.
Click the OK button. The Properties
dialog box closes and the Play Control window appears.
In the Microphone column,
select Mute (if there is a Select checkbox in the Microphone
column, clear the checkbox by selecting it).
From the Options menu,
click Properties. The Properties dialog box appears.
Select the radio button next to Recording.
From the Show the following
volume controls list, select the MIC (Microphone) box.
Click the OK button. The Properties
dialog box closes and Record Control window appears.
In the Microphone column,
choose Select (if there is a Mute checkbox in the Microphone
column, clear the checkbox by selecting it).
Exit Record Control.
If Internet Explorer is running,
close and restart the explorer.
Step
1: For better sound quality
over the Internet:
You should first
defrag your hard drive regularly.
Verify your Internet speed
when you logon to the Internet.
Step
2: The
first time people install ClickTel.exe
they sometimes experience
microphone problems, to fix the problems you have to:
Click on the little yellow
speaker
at the lower right of your screen.
Then open the Options
menu and choose properties
In the Properties box,
select Adjust volume for Recording and check the microphone
checkbox. Click OK
In the Recording
Control dialog box, adjust the microphone volume
control slider to the middle or three-quarters and check the Select
checkbox.
Echo problem:
If you hear yourself in the speaker you have to mute your microphone in
the playback (not the recording) control window.
Click the Call button
below using your right mouse button
To hang up, right click on you mouse on the CALL button.
There are other controls and settings.
If you see the
black "call button" mean the plugin is intalled on
your PC
If not, reload this
page. If still not visible, install
the plug-in again.
If properly installed but
you can't see the button in the dialer,
make sure you are typing your numbers correclty. Click
here for more.
This menu will appear.
Click the word Settings and you will see Table 5 .
Settings depending on Your
modem or network speed, 14.4kbs to 128kbs or faster adjust the
Bandwidth (Table 5)
Click the Audio
Settings tab, then click the "Start Test" button and
speak into the microphone.
To adjust your "Time
before Idle", while speaking, note the time before you hear
echo of your voice played back to you. The tab should be near the I
in "Time" to speed up the playback (see green line in
Playback). That way, you will have the best possible quality
telephone call.

Step
4: "Radio" or
walkie-talkie style communication?
If you can't talk at the same
time, (as you might on a radio telephone) there are four possible
causes:
Full Duplex is not checked
right mouse menu below:
Your Internet connection
is via satellite
Your sound card needs
reconfiguring
You must download the
correct driver for your sound card.
You
have a Quickcam or any camera with internal
microphone the video software will disconnect your external
microphone and replace with the internal camera microphone, to fix
the problem replace the QuickCam sound recording driver for your
sound card driver, just chose the same driver has sound playback
Step
5: Your microphone is working but the
person who receive the call on the telephone can't hear you.?
You must make sure your microphone is working
correctly by recording your voice using the sound recorder.
To record your voice, run the sound
recorder in Windows 95or 98:
Click on Start
Point Programs
Point Accessories
Point Multimedia
Click on sound recorder
and record your voice.
Click on the red dot to start
recording and speak into the microphone.
The green line should widen
when you speak.
Then Click on the pause button
to stop the
recording.
Click the play button
to hear your voice.
If you can't record, stop and check
your recording volume as follows:
In the Recording Control dialog
box, adjust the microphone volume control slider to the middle or
three-quarters and check the Select checkbox.
If you use a VOICE MODEM, you may see messages such as: "your
sound card is in use"", uyou must deactivate your voice mode driver located
in the "Sound, video and game controllers".

Step
6: Dialing but no sound, look to
setup on Proxy or firewall are call your WebMaster he will do it for you.
To
hang up, right click on you mouse on the CALL button. There are other
contols and settings.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
3*, 4 and Netscape 4 or later. Users of Microsoft
Internet Explorer 3.0 or later, and Netscape 4 or later, do not need to download.
Clicktel downloads automatically upon accessing a
Clicktel-enabled page.
Instructions:
Right mouse on CALL button to Hang up
Click button before entering numbers
Use keyboard to type NUMBERS (for # press shift+3) Please do not close this window while talking.
Proxy or firewall:
Internet Phone and Clicktel might use different port assignments, but also will
have explicit support for Firewalls or proxi.Network security software provides
integrated, secure support for Internet Phone for Vilmo & Gaston. It is also
possible to use Internet Phone for
Clicktel & Internet Phone over other Firewalls, by opening the two
channels it works with:
TCP Port 6670 (decimal) to remote
system: The port used to connect to the Internet Phone Servers.
UDP Port 22555 (decimal): All audio is
passed through this port on both local and remote machine.
TCP Port 25793 (decimal) to remote
system: The port used to connect to the addressing server.
TCP Port 1490 This port is for the
Conference engine (whiteboard/chat/file transfer)
